Chris Finnegan

Chris Finnegan MBE (1944 to 2009) was born in Uxbridge and grew up in Cowley Road.

He was one of 8 siblings and was introduced to boxing by his elder brother, Terence, at Hayes Boxing Club.

During his career, Chris fought 38 times at light-heavyweight, won 3 Lonsdale belts as British Champion and claimed the Commonwealth and European titles, which he successfully defended twice.

He won a gold medal in the middleweight division at the Mexico City Summer Olympic Games on 26 October 1968.

Chris was awarded an MBE following this sporting success and went on to enjoy a professional career, claiming Commonwealth and European titles.

Chris Finnegan became lifetime President of the club in 1999.

The current gym building is situated on the site of the old athletic stadium, where the previous clubhouse used by Finnegan was located.
