Parks and open spaces
Hillingdon is the second largest borough in London with over 200 green spaces covering approximately 1,800 acres.
Whether you want a quiet place to sit and think, somewhere for the whole family to spend the day, or outdoor sports facilities to enjoy and benefit from, Hillingdon offers something for everyone.
Across the borough there are:
- formal gardens
- town parks
- informal nature conservation
- country parks,
- over 100 children's play areas
Hillingdon Council has scooped Green Flag Awards for its parks and open spaces, bringing its current collection to 19 - one of the highest in London. The Green Flag Award uses eight criteria to judge against: a welcoming place, healthy, safe and secure, well maintained and clean, sustainability, conservation and heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.
Hillingdon also has a National Nature Reserve at Ruislip Woods, and over 40 Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs), all of which are open to the public.
