Hazardous materials

Although chemical-related incidents are rare, it is important to respond promptly.

If you have any chemicals that may be dangerous, ensure that:

  • they are stored in an appropriate container
  • the container is labelled appropriately with emergency action codes
  • the container is stored in a safe environment.

If you hear of a chemical spillage within your local area, follow local news reports and our X feed for updates and information.

The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC) plays a key role for responding to chemical incidents. They provide a 24 hour national advice service to the public emergency services to help deal with chemical incidents.
