What is Hillingdon MASH?

MASH stands for Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub.

Hillingdon MASH

Hillingdon MASH is a multi-agency team with representatives from the following services:

  • Children's social care
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Independent domestic violence advocacy
  • Education
  • Housing
  • Police (PPD)
  • Probation
  • Youth offending
  • Health
  • Early intervention
  • Adults mental health
  • Adults safeguarding

The MASH model means that information from different agencies can be shared quickly so social workers can build up a better picture of the child's life from the outset. This makes it easier for social workers to decide on the best type of intervention needed to protect the child and support the family, and means families get the right help quicker.

The MASH team is located in a secure location, where each team member has access to their agency's database and can lawfully share this information in a safe and managed way.

The team currently deals with police referrals (Merlins) and referrals, where there are concerns about a child's safety or welfare, and shares information held by other agencies about a child and their family in order to decide on the best course of action.
