Recycling collections

We are committed to recycling as much of our residents' waste as possible by providing free and easy-to-use weekly collections.

Dry mixed recycling

In Hillingdon, you can recycle paper, cardboard, glass and plastics every week for free - and it all goes in the same clear (dry mixed) recycling bag.

Items accepted through this service

  • Aerosol cans (do not pierce or squash them and only put out once empty)
  • Aluminium foil, including clean foil trays and containers
  • Books (hard or plastic covers should be removed and disposed of as general waste)
  • Butter and margarine tubs
  • Cardboard and paper, including printing paper, newspapers, catalogues, envelopes, magazines, junk mail, greeting cards and wrapping paper (that do not contain foil or glitter), shredded paper (a carrier bag amount is a good guideline) 
  • Cartons made from paper and cardboard

  • Drink cans and food tins
  • Egg boxes made from cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal bottle tops and jar lids
  • Plastics, including bottles, trays, bottle tops, triggers from household cleaners, shampoo bottles, shower gel bottles and those that include any of these symbols: 1 = PET, 2 = HDPE, 4 = LDPE

Instructions for collection

  • All recycling should be placed in the clear recycling bags provided.
  • All dry recyclables can be mixed into the same bag -there is no need to sort different materials into separate bags.
  • You can put out as many recycling bags for collection as you wish.​​​​​

Order more recycling bags

Please note: If it has been more than 10 days since you ordered more recycling bags and you have not received them yet, you can query undelivered recycling bags

Flats

  • If you live in a flat, we will provide you with a reusable recycling bag, which should be emptied into your block's big recycling bin, ahead of your collection day.

Houses

  • If you have any big cardboard items, please flatten and put these underneath your tied recycling bags.
  • Keep all of your recycling bags within your property boundary until collection day.
  • On your collection day, leave your tied recycling sacks at the end of your property boundary before 6am.
  • If you do not have a front garden, leave the tied sacks on the pavement no earlier than 5.30pm the evening before collection day.

Missed collection

If your recycling hasn't been collected on your collection day and you have followed instructions for collection, please let us know.

We will make another collection within 2 working days.
